Why “CongoMagis”? Understanding the Magis in Service of the Congo
The name of our organisation is no accident. “Magis” is a Latin word meaning “more” — a central concept of Ignatian spirituality that invites everyone to give the best of themselves, never settling for the minimum.
Former members of the Society of Jesus, the founders of CongoMagis carried this heritage beyond its religious setting to make it a principle of civic action: serving the Democratic Republic of the Congo with excellence, rigour and uncompromising commitment.
A principle, not a slogan
The Magis does not mean “doing more things,” but “doing things with more soul, more rigour, more excellence.” Applied to our country, this means refusing to accept mediocrity as inevitable and demanding of ourselves, before demanding of others, a level of commitment equal to the Congo’s challenges.
It is this demanding standard that shapes our four values: commitment and honesty, excellence and rigour, transparency and moral rectitude, rationality and innovative spirit.

Now scattered across every continent, members of CongoMagis share the same conviction: the DRC can and must become a modern, credible, just state that flourishes for all its daughters and sons. Each contributes according to their field of expertise — social, political, administrative, economic or ecological.
