Agriculture and Livestock Farming: Untapped Levers for Employment in the DRC
With around 80 million hectares of arable land, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has one of the largest agricultural potentials in Africa — largely under-exploited today.
A potential still to be unlocked
Supporting and promoting agriculture and livestock farming as major levers of employability is one of the economic objectives CongoMagis has set for itself. It is not just about producing more, but about structuring entire value chains: production, processing, distribution.
Three priorities for action
First, facilitate access to financing for smallholder farmers. Second, provide technical support to emerging agricultural cooperatives. Third, connect producers to urban markets via short supply chains.
These priorities are part of our broader commitment to guide and encourage the entrepreneurial efforts of young people, women and socio-economically disadvantaged groups.
